The Center for Climate Change started implementing the project “Increasing resilience to climate change at the local level”.
The aim of the project is to increase resilience to climate change at the local level through better planning, increased awareness and cooperation of all stakeholders and mitigation of the effects of climate change by identifying the main sectors that contribute to greenhouse gas emissions at the local level and assessing of risk for vulnerable sectors, as well as building the capacities of the municipal administration and local civil society organizations for the importance of climate resilience.
The planned activities within this project are:
- Analysis report on the most vulnerable municipalities to natural disasters in the Republic of North Macedonia
The vulnerability of municipalities in terms of climate change will be analyzed based on a previously prepared questionnaire on the occurrence of extreme weather events (floods, hail, snow drifts and forest fires). The questionnaire will be delivered to all municipalities in order to collect data related to the events of natural disasters and that in the period from 2000 to 2021, while including the number of events recorded in the Commissions for the assessment of the material damage caused. Based on this analysis, the most vulnerable municipalities to natural disasters will be determined, and the analysis will also include an overview of the material damage caused by natural disasters.
- Improved knowledge about climate resilience, as well as improved knowledge for better planning of climate resilience activities at the local level
Trainings on climate resilience will be held at the local level with each municipality that has been selected separately, will be held training on implementing activities and updating the Local Energy and Climate Plans.
- Communication and dissemination activities
A special focus will be placed on the promotion of project activities and results at the local level (in the municipality where the specific activity is implemented), PR texts published on electronic media and TV and radio promotions that are related to climate resilience, the consequences of climate change, as well as the urgent need for adaptation and mitigation measures and activities.
