The third activity of the “GREEN STEPS TO FUTURE” project, funded under the Erasmus+ program, took place at Agrupamento de Escolas de Penacova in Portugal from March 4 to 8, 2024. The event witnessed active participation from all project partners, focusing on raising awareness about  the importance of water management.

The activity commenced with a ceremonial welcome by the school director, setting a collaborative tone for the event. Participants had the opportunity to explore the school facilities, gaining insights into its infrastructure and resources.

The workshop, facilitated by representatives from CCC, focused on the theme of water management and water pollution. Discussions revolved around the critical theme of water management and water pollution, emphasizing the significance of water sustainability, the urgent need for effective wastewater treatment, and inefficient water usage. Participants gained insights into various wastewater treatment methods and their efficacy in removing pollutants before discharge into natural water bodies. International groups engaged in dialogues regarding the causes of water pollution  and participants shared examples of water waste treatment methods implemented in their respective countries.

The following day we visited a waste sorting and disposal center, showcasing modern waste management practices. Participants witnessed firsthand the scale of waste generation and explored innovative  methods. Additionally, a visit to a dam highlighted the dual function of regulating water flow and generating renewable energy.

Excursions to Aveiro, Costa Nova, and Coimbra provided participants with cultural and environmental insights into Portugal. The tour included experiences such as sailing along Aveiro’s canals, exploring the Atlantic coast, and visiting UNESCO-protected sites in Coimbra, including the local university.

The “GREEN STEPS TO FUTURE” project’s third activity in Portugal was a resounding success, fostering cross-cultural exchanges, environmental awareness, and collaborative learning. The event not only enriched participants’ understanding of climate change and sustainability but also promoted social and communication skills, particularly in the English language. The project’s impact extends beyond its participants, contributing to public awareness and advocacy for sustainable practices.

We express our gratitude to all project partners, participants, and stakeholders for their contributions and commitment to addressing global environmental challenges. Through initiatives like “GREEN STEPS TO FUTURE,” we continue to pave the way towards a more sustainable and resilient future.
