Within the UNCCD 14th Conference of the parties (COP14), held in New Delhi, India from 2nd-13th September 2019) Center for Climate Change received status of accredited party to the Convention.
The United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) provides an excellent platform for the full participation of CSOs not only at national level as stakeholders responsible for implementing UNCCD, but also at the level of decision making ensuring their participation in Conference sessions of the Parties (COP) to the Convention. CSO representatives can participate as facilitators at the official sessions of the COP and its affiliates to represent the population living in the affected areas of the international arena.
In addition to their interventions during official sessions and the possibility of organizing external events, COP organizes open dialogue sessions with CSOs. During these sessions, CSO representatives organize the agenda and set out scenarios for exchanges with parties, United Nations agencies and intergovernmental organizations on issues of importance to civil society.
We hope that such activities within the Convention will provide us with opportunities to find ways of dealing more easily with the effects of climate change, especially those related to desertification.
