At 21st of November 2017, Center for Climate Change – Gevgelija (CCC) in cooperation with Municipality of Strumica and Federation of mountaineering sports of Macedonia, has marked the mountain path starting from church “St.Cyril and Methodius” and leads to the monastery ”St. Ilija”. The students from the municipal school “Sando Masev” from Strumica also took part in the action, which also helped mark the track. The path is 3 kilometers long, and the marking is with red and white color. It takes 1:30 hours to record the whole path and it has an average slope of 9.9% with a total pitch of 250 meters. This action is expected to increase the environmental awareness of the citizens, ie to bring closer the nature and the need for its greater care. At the same time, the establishment of a new path over the city will benefit the citizens for recreation and the possibility for longer stay in nature.
The action is a part of the action plan for greater public involvement in the decision making process in the field of environment, which was developed for the period 2017-2020. The goal of the action plan, and also the project, is to increase the involvement of CSOs in the environmental decision-making process at the local level and to strengthen the awareness of civil society organizations on environmental issues for greater involvement in the creation of social changes in terms of good governance and decision-making at the local level. The event is part of the project activities of the project “Increased involvement of civil society in the decision-making process in the field of environment” and is funded within the program for action grants of CIVICA Mobilitas.
